Welcome at Shouan Bunko!
One of the best ways to discover unique and super cute spaces in Tokyo is to attend my friends' events throughout the year. I have been able to join a few events in 2014 and discovered many new places this way, often little cafes nested in different areas of Tokyo. I have also been lucky to meet up with exceptionally creative and friendly people whose background are nothing short of unique and inspiring. Shouan Bunko in Suginami-ku is one calm little nook, and a perfect getaway from bustling Shinjuku. I was there on a Sunday afternoon to check out a lovely basket exhibition.
The bags on the top shelf in the photo above are by Aiken Drum, which I had introduce on the blog - read about it here. Amazing accessories made of wood and created by a super creative husband-wife team! Handmade in Tokyo.
Thank you so much to my friend Yuko Anderson of trensa (who was also exhibiting when I visited) for always introducing me to such amazing spaces. I have one more exciting blogpost coming up soon about another unique café-gallery, stay tuned!
You can visit Shouan Bunko on your way to Kichijoji, a super trendy and cute neighborhood - which I have yet to explore! The closest train station to Shoan Bunko is Nishiogikubo on the Chuo Line (from Shinjuku) and just one stop before Kichijoji.
