Coming up next: Valentine's Day Cookie Workshop


Hello!

It's been announced on Facebook at the beginning of the week and I also included the info in my newsletter (sign up here!) this week: coming up at the beginning of February is a brand new workshop with guest instructor Chikako Yamamoto, chef and baker extraordinaire (check her website here). Chikako self trained herself at decorating cookies and she's creating very beautiful sets for different occasions such as wedding, birthday, graduation, christening etc... Her photo gallery is inspiring to say the least!

We met for the first time last year in May when I organised the event A Taste of India and promised each other to do something together in the future (I have always been in awe looking at sugar decorated cookies!). Our busy schedules prevented us to get anything planned before 2014, and I am grateful for Chikako to have emailed me after Christmas to suggest a Valentine's Day themed workshop!

She will teach us how to decorate cookies in the prettiest way possible - just having a look at the pictures of this post says it all I guess... Each participant will decorate a set of 10 cookies to be brought home. They will learn how to apply the sugar, plain colors and more intricate designs. The reward after the hard work will be a delicious homemade lunch (cooked by yours truly) shared by all participants in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

This workshop is organised in collaboration with Niki's Kitchen and although it booked out in just a couple of days (yeah!!), you can always put your name on the waiting list: click here for more information (in Japanese).

Valentine's Day 2013 {Party Styling}


Hi everyone,

Going through my archives this week, I thought I should share here on my blog a party styling I have created just a year ago for Beautiful Revelry for Valentine's Day. We named it < Valentine's Day Brunch > and our color palette included peach, mint and silver glitter.
Ann of Beautiful Revelry provided me with the stationery set (paper goodies) and I created a table around it. Since I never shared the full set of pictures over here, I thought it was appropriate to showcase this pretty styling + I added a couple of never-published pics as well.

Earring Embroidery Workshop - Tokyo

Student's remarkable work - January 25th

Hello everyone,

I have been able to work on a blogpost resuming the last two workshops of this month. I have one more to come on Saturday, but I couldn't wait to share the beautiful work done by my talented participants!

I usually prepare one sample only of the project with my own choice of color combination, and I am always very happy to see what participants choose among the colours I can offer. They inspire me!

Workshop preps the night before the actual workshop...

For each set of workshops, I am decorating my house or create party decoration to inspire my students. This month's theme is "Let it Snow" and I decided to work with white, silver and icy blue colours. Using white paper flowers (DIY kit from DAISO), I decorated my walls as if they were snowballs. I imagined snowflakes using masking tapes and I recycled the branch I used as a Christmas Advent Calendar for my daughter to hang beautiful snowflakes made with a crochet by my Grand-Ma (it was my Christmas gift from her this year!). I also displayed the three little guys I made with clay last month and reading [LOVE] [JOY] [PEACE] on top of a winter landscape by a French artist [Pierre Bertin] of the area I come from. 



Since my workshops always last 3 to 4 hours and usually start in the morning (while my kids are at school), I always serve a hearty home cooked lunch and some snacks. This month on the menu:
  • Hot chocolate as a welcome drink (although I served it with dessert yesterday)
  • Sausage rolls on a stick (mid-workshop snack)
  • Mixed vegetable pie + green salad with blue cheese bites, walnuts &my mom's dressing
  • Glorious buttercream cake with its white vanilla frosting


Here below are some pictures of the work by my students - aren't they talented? Unfortunately I am not always able to take pictures of everyone's work, as I am usually getting caught up by lunch preps. It's something I want to be better at as I like to look at the pictures afterwards and feature them here. Most of my students are complete beginners and they are doing so well, you can do it too!

Chocolate chip cookies with sesame seeds - recipe



Hello everyone! 

The second week of school is over, it's been busy! We are slowly getting back into our daily routine, and I have been focusing on the preparation of my January workshops and the upcoming shooting of a kid party table for a new Japanese magazine due to launch in April 24 at the Tokyo Hobby show. I will share more of this REALLY EXCITING collaboration in a next post, stay tuned!

Last week I shared pics of cookies I had made, trying out a new recipe discovered on the French blog  Les Carnets Parisiens. The recipe is originally from a book called La Pâtisserie Maison by Marlette. The cookies were so good I thought you may be interested in trying out the recipe as well... so I have translated it for you. Here we go!

Chocolate chip cookies with sesame seeds
La Pâtisserie Maison - Marlette

Ingredients (for about 15 cookies of medium size)

150g plain flour
110g brown sugar
80g chocolate chips
15g sesame seeds
5g baking powder
1 egg
95g butter (room temperature)
1 pinch of salt

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Prepare a lined baking sheet (or two if your oven is as small as mine!).
2. In a bowl, whisk the butter with the sugar until blended. 
3. Add the eggs one after the other while reducing the speed of your appliance.
4. Add the flour, baking powder, sesame seeds and salt. Mix well.
5. Stir in the chocolate chip cookies and mix with a spatula.
6. Scoop out 12 to 15 equal-sized mounds on your lined baking sheet. allow some room between each cookie as the dough will expand while cooking.
7. Cook for 6-8 minutes, cookies must still be soft in the inside.
8. Leave to cool on the baking sheet for a short while before transferring them to a cooling rack where they will harden.

Enjoy them with a hot chocolate or a cup of tea,

Christmas 2013 - Home decoration


Among the many topics I was supposed to post on the blog last month was a sneak peek at the Christmas decoration I made for my home. It's most probably too late to bring you inspiration to decorate your home but I am still sharing my pictures today... for the next Christmas! 
My color palette was red/ white/ ice blue with gold and silver accents. I worked with paper to create the garlands to decorate my window, felt (wreath), masking tapes (of course!) and spray paint on branches and pine cones I picked up at the park during the year.

By the way, have you taken your Christmas tree down yet? In France, we usually wait to do it after the 6th of January so I am planning to do it this weekend... and put up the next round of decoration: let it snow!
